The show begins
with a 16-minute tribute to the showgirl, which gives
the statuesque dancers a chance to show their stuff
– the lavish costumes, designed by Pete Menefee
and Bob Mackie, leave little to the imagination.
Elegant ballroom gowns are the focus in the tribute
to Ginger Rogers and Fred Astaire, with the show’s
main characters backed by dancers in sheer, see-through
fabrics, stepping to the music in unison. The biggest
spectacle, however, is a three-act version of the sinking
of the Titanic, complete with the captain’s ball,
a boiler room scene (the male dancers stoke this fire)
and the sinking of the ship, which features enough pyrotechnics
to bring down a small nation.
With more than 20 years of experience on the Strip,
Bally's "Jubilee!" continues to wow the crowds.
"Jubilee!" combines eye-catching, toe-tapping
musical numbers with million-dollar sets and breathtaking
costumes by designer-to-the-divas Bob Mackie.
Amidst the landmark glitz, "Jubilee!" has
placed a cast of more 100 performers, including acrobats,
aerialists, and a bounty of dancers who continue to
be voted Vegas' "Best Showgirls" by the Las
Vegas Review-Journal. And while musical numbers celebrating
such pairings as Samson and Delilah and Fred and Ginger
are always audience favorites, it's set pieces like
the effects-laden sinking of the Titanic that pack them
into Bally's night after night.
Imitated but never duplicated, "Jubilee!"
continues to re-write the book on the Las Vegas topless
revue.
